27) This problem gives us a force diagram. We are told two of the forces and we know that the mass remains at rest. I would first split force F into its separate components.

The problem tells us that the mass is at rest. That means the net force is equal to zero. Let's use the sum of forces in each direction to find the separate components of force F. Make sure to remember that we consider left and down as negative.

Finally, since the x and y-components are perpendicular to each other, we can use the Pythagorean theorem to find the magnitude of force F.
