Barron's 2nd Edition PT1 Q35

35) This problem asks us to find the force acting on the 2kg block as it moves up the frictionless incline with a constant speed of 0.5 m/s. The most important information given is that the object travels with a constant speed. This means the object is not accelerating and has no net force. To illustrate this, let’s draw out a force diagram.

Where N is normal force, F is applied force, and F[g] is gravitational force

We can simplify F[g] into the components perpendicular and parallel to the incline.

Where N is normal force, F is applied force, and F[g] is gravitational force

Finally, all we need to do is sum the forces parallel to the incline and solve for F.

Where F[Net] is the net force parallel to the incline, F is the applied force, F[g] is gravitational force, m is mass, and g is acceleration of gravity
