CollegeBoard SAT Physics Study Guide PT1 Q11

11) This question tells us that there is a force acting on an object. We need to find which graph would be produced by a force that isn't constant in magnitude or direction. Let's start with Newton's 2nd Law. In addition to this we will also need to know that the slope of the velocity vs. time graph will be our acceleration.

Newtons 2nd Law: Where F is force, m is mass, and a is acceleration

We can see that the Force is directly related to the acceleration. Remember that acceleration is the slope of our velocity graph. So, all the graphs with constant slopes will be incorrect answers. This eliminates choices A, B, C, and D, leaving us with choice E.

Answer: E
