Where N is normal force, m is mass, and g is acceleration due to gravity

We can see that the net force of the system, is just the applied 35-Newton force. By using Newtown's second law for the system as a whole, we can find the net acceleration.

Where F is force, m is mass, and a is acceleration

If we take a look at the net forces on block X, we can find the force the block Y exerts on block X.
