Princeton Review 16th Edition PT1 Q32

32) The problem gives us a Force vs Time graph and asks us to find the change in momentum. The change in momentum is also called Impulse(J), which can be expressed in two different ways.

Where J is impulse, p is momentum, m is mass, v is velocity, F is force, and t is time

Since we are given a Force vs Time graph, let’s use the blue equation. The relationship is that Impulse is the product of Force and Time, so we need to find the product of the Force and Time given from the graph. This means we are going to be finding the integral, or the area under the curve. We can just split this shape into a triangle and a rectangle and sum the areas of the two.

Where b is base length, h is height length, and J is impulse

Answer: E
