Princeton Review 16th Edition PT1 Q47

47) The problem asks us to select the best graph of the Temperate of a block of ice with respect to time. The block is heated from -20 C to 120 C. Since the block is ice, there are a few key characteristics of water that we must know.

Furthermore, when any object goes through a phase change, either a solid-liquid phase change or a liquid-gas phase change, the temperature will not change. Essentially, during the phase change, the water will stay at 0 C while it changes from ice to water, and it will stay at 100 C while it changes from liquid to gas. Thus, at 0 C and 100 C there will be a time period where the temperature is not increasing nor decreasing.

Our final graph should have the same general shape as this one.
