Princeton Review 16th Edition PT1 Q1

1) This question asks us to find the momentum of the object. Momentum(p) can be described as the relationship between an object's mass(m) and its velocity(v).

From this equation we can tell that our momentum will be proportionate with our velocity. The object's velocity graph is given, and the question asks which answer choice accurately depicts momentum vs. time(t).

Since the mass of our object isn't changing, we can imagine m as a constant.

If we multiply velocity by a constant, the graph should have the same approximate shape. So, our answer should look like the blue graph. Indeed, it is true that when you multiply the velocity graph by a constant, the graph will not be identical, but the question just asks for the graph that "best depicts the object's momentum" so we just want the approximate shape and slope of the graph to be correct.
